Sociological aspects of Education
Outline of the course:
Tuesdays and Fridays, 11.30 am to 1.00 pm
General introduction to sociology: some key concepts, key thinkers and key perspectives. Education will be viewed through these perspectives along with a historical coverage of education in India, and the current status of education in India (with a focus on statistical data for different states and stages). Readings in school, society, gender and education by diverse theorists will be undertaken. The course will include field visits and audio-visual films. Students will be required to make presentations on reading materials assigned to them and hand-in written assignments. They will be assessed on the basis of these presentations and assignments.
