Outline of the course:
Social Aspects Of Education (Jan-August 1995)
I Was delivered for HBCSE scientific and academic members. The course
covered various sociological perspectives (structural-functionalism,
conflict theory, symbolic interactionism) and their relation to education.
Explanations for differential educational attainments of social groups
were looked into and emphasis was placed on understanding the role of the
family and schooling in the socialization of the individual. Role of
women in society; sex-role stereotyping and gender issues in education
were also studied.
