Science and Technology Education

Outline of the course:

This reading course (STE) was based on the following 4 books from the series, "Developing Science and Technology Education":

1. Technology's Challenge to Science Education by David Layton (OUP 1993)

2. Teaching Science, Technology and Society by Joan Solomon (OUP 1993)

3. Teaching Design and Technology by John Eggleston (OUP 2001)

4. Understanding Practice in Science and Technology by Richard Kimbell et al. (OUP 1998)

Besides reading and presenting materials from these sources, students were expected to present reviews of research papers in related topics. The course explored the relationships between science, technology and the school curriculum. It also examined aspects of STE, such as, curricular materials, its appropriateness at different school levels, learning outcomes and gender issues.
