About the speaker:
Veena Gowda is a practising women's rights lawyer in the High Court of Bombay, Family Court and other trial courts.
She graduated from National Law School of India University, Bangalore in 1995 and thereafter joined a Mumbai-based legal centre for women. Since 2005, she is practicing independently in Mumbai and has extensive litigation experience on cases of domestic violence, sexual abuse, sexual harassment at workplace and property rights of women. She has served on several Sexual Harassment Complaints Committees, both in the private and the public sector, including committees set up by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women. In the course of her work she has conducted legal workshops on laws concerning sexual harassment at workplace for the Mumbai Police and senior management and employees of various companies. She is at presentl associated with Akshara, a resource center for women as a legal consultant on issues concerning Sexual Harassment at workplace.
