Announcement – Batch VI (2009 – 2010)
Applications are invited from first year undergraduate students of science (B. Sc.) and engineering (B. Tech, B. E.) for NIUS batch VI (2009 – 2010). Applicants must have scored at least 60% marks or equivalent in their class X and class XII examination. First year students who have participated in the physics or astronomy Olympiad orientation cum selection camp (OCSC) at HBCSE or have received KVPY or JBNSTS fellowship or have been selected for NGPE national top 1 % are encouraged to apply.
The first camp of about two weeks duration will be held at HBCSE, Mumbai during June 2009. This first camp will be an exposure and enrichment camp where leading scientists will offer short courses on selected topics. The lectures will be of a pedagogical nature. There will be short courses on special topics such as astronomy, instrumentation, nanophysics, quantum computing and other advanced areas. In addition, there will be a few enrichment lectures.
The selection of students for subsequent camps will also be made in the first camp. This selection will be based, both, on student’s abilities and interest, and the mentor’s willingness.

Checklist for Application (No Email applications):
1. Application form or its equivalent (on plain paper), duly filled.
2. Attested copies of your std. X and std. XII mark sheets
3. Two testimonials by your teachers (enclose them with the application).
4. Bona fide certificate from your college / institute.
5. A 100 word write up indicating your interest (e.g., instrumentation, nanoscience,
astronomy, quantum computing etc.)
6. Two self addressed envelopes (without postage stamps) of size about 10 cm × 25 cm.
Send your completed applications along with all the above mentioned documents to the following address so as to reach Mumbai on or before March 15, 2009. Please write clearly “NIUS 2009–2010 PHYSICS” on the envelope.
