Asian Science Camp 2011 in Daejeon, Korea

Asian Science Camps aim at enlightening science talented youths through discussion and dialogue with top scholars in the world, and to promote international friendship and cooperation among the best young students of the next generation in the Asian region. These are annual events organized on the lines of the Linden meets in Germany. The Asian Science Camp would invite about ten Nobel Laureates or world-distinguished scientists as speakers and devise an interesting program to attract the participants. The program would include plenary sessions, round table discussions, student master dialogues, a creative poster competition, social events and excursion. The Asian Science Camp 2011 is scheduled to be held from August 7 to August 13, 2011 at Daejeon, Korea. About 13 world distinguished scientists including 6 Nobel Laureates will address and interact about 250 bright students from Asia during this camp. India sent students for the 2009 camp which was held in Tsukuba Japan and hosted the 2010 camp in Mumbai.


India has been invited to participate in the 2011 camp with 30 students and 2 teachers. Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, sponsors the Asian Science Camp activities and HBCSE coordinates it on their behalf.

Applications for participation are invited from interested students to participate in the Asian Science Camp 2011 to be held from August 7 to August 13, 2011 at Daejeon, Korea. Applicants selected by a committee based on application details and/or merit will be invited to participate.

 

Who can participate?

Students from 1st and 2nd year of Bachelor's / integrated M.Sc. degree with outstanding scientific talent in the fields of natural sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) can apply for participation.

 

The applicants should:

Be proficient in oral and written English.

Have a genuine interest in science and research.

Be able to fully attend the 2011 ASC.

Have the permission to fully attend the event from their schools/colleges/universities.

Have a passport, valid at least till end February, 2012, for travel to Korea.

 

How to participate?

Each student who satisfies the eligibility criteria above is required to submit the following details to the contact given below so as to reach on or before 1 July, 2011.

  2. Contact address, e-mail address and telephone numbers

  3. State whether he/she has a passport valid till end February, 2012.

A short list of about 30 selected participants including the team leader/teacher to accompany the selected students will be announced on HBCSE site (www.hbcse.tifr.res.in/asc2011) by 5 July 2011.

 

Important Note

All members of the Indian Team will travel together from Mumbai to Korea and back to Mumbai. Their travel expenses from their institutions/ residence to Mumbai and back as well as their local hospitality in Mumbai will be borne by DST. The travel costs of the Indian Team from Mumbai to Daejeon, Korea, will also be borne by the DST.

 

There will be no registration fee and the Camp organising committee will provide the participants’ living and local expenses associated with the Camp in Korea.
